Custom Web Applications
Achieving Business Vision Through Technology
Throughout our years of experience in application development, we have become adept in our ability to develop an understanding of each client’s business.
Rather than “shoot from the hip” with the scope of work for a project, we take the time to learn about the company vision, systems already in place and plans for the future. This enables us to strategize, plan and develop applications that are scalable and take our clients’ businesses well into the future — testament to our years of success being largely based on repeat and referral business.
Security is of the utmost importance in any project and we take this very seriously, from smaller projects to complex internal applications to full-scale ecommerce websites.
The development languages where we choose to target our expertise must adhere to these requirements, as well. We don’t develop projects in languages that we don’t feel will stand the test of time or may even cease to be supported entirely.
Binary Minds provides a higher level and broader range of web and app development expertise that we sometimes need with our clients, I’ve found them to be the go-to for web and application requirements.
— Jason Platt, Technology Partner and Consultant to Sero Solutions
I started creating the program, but it became too large for me to handle. We started working with another programming group, but I wasn’t happy with their turnaround time or fee structure. When our graphic designer referred us to Binary Minds, we found their pricing to be fair and their turnaround time was superior. We have them do all our application development now. I wouldn’t use any other programming group.

The Synthenet and Binary Minds teams have always been highly professional yet very personal in their approach to dealing with us as a client. They provide honest advice and explain it in terms that a non-technical professional can understand. In addition, they have an excellent manner of working with our employees who have many different levels of website understanding. We first began working with them in 2013 on our old website. It became evident that we actually needed and would greatly benefit from a new website. Because of our excellent experience in prior work with them, we felt comfortable using their expertise to develop our current state of the art site that launched in 2017.

PHP / Symfony
Our first choice for the web-based business solutions we build is PHP with Symfony framework.
Due to its open-source nature and an outstanding developer community, PHP is constantly upgrading. Its performance improves with each version and with the progress of its frameworks. This presents many advantages, including versatility, flexibility and compatibility with all major platforms from Windows, Unix and Linux to MacOS. It supports more than 20 databases and successfully integrates with JavaScript, WML, XML, and other programming languages, making it an outstanding choice for business-driven software development.
The Symfony framework enables us to build highly scalable projects due to its modular-based architecture — providing stable, fast and flexible web application development. The combination of PHP with Symfony offers us the flexibility to create fast, high-performing optimized applications.
ColdFusion
We have been working with ColdFusion since Binary Minds’ inception, and we truly are experts in the world of ColdFusion development. This notable development language has been around for a long time, but unlike most legacy languages and platforms, it continues to evolve. Adobe continues to support and release new versions and updates on a consistent basis.
ColdFusion is still the backbone of many organization’s applications, is one of the most secure programming languages out there, and offers many benefits.
The CFScript language syntax requires fewer lines of code to program common functionality than any other platform. Fewer lines of code mean shorter development time and better application performance.
ColdFusion utilizes CFCs (ColdFusion Components) which are fast, stable, flexible pieces of code.
Our concrete expertise with ColdFusion runs the gamut — in multiple frameworks — from web application development to integration with 3rd party APIs, support, maintenance, security and site performance audits/recommendations, hosting services, and even migration to other development languages.
No project is too big or too small — we have taken many legacy systems and brought them up to today’s standards, as well as expanding functionality and enhancing existing applications.
WordPress
If a smaller, cost-effective project is desired, we often turn to WordPress. This well-known open source platform offers tremendous flexibility and a vast selection of plug-ins which enable us to develop highly functional websites within more modest budgets.
WordPress was born out of a desire for an elegant, well-architectured personal publishing system built on PHP and MySQL. Its open source nature makes expanding website functionality faster, easier and less expensive. WordPress is current software, but its roots and development go back to 2001, making it both a mature and stable product.
The look and feel of a WordPress website can be 100% customized so the client’s brand shines through and provides a unique experience to visitors. In addition, WordPress makes it very easy to maintain a website. The browser-based interface allows the website to be managed from any Internet connected computer. Adding new pages, blog posts, images, etc. can be done quickly and easily.
The code behind WordPress is very clean and simple, making it easy for search engines to read and index a site’s content. In addition, each page, post and image can have its own meta tag keywords, description and title, and be optimized for specific keywords, allowing for very precise search engine optimization.
Since WordPress was originally created as a blogging platform, blogging capabilities are built-in and easy to integrate. Setting up RSS/email subscriptions to a blog, commenting capabilities and automatically adding the most recent blog posts to other pages of the site (the home page, for example) are also very simple to set up and help to extend the brand’s reach and make the site more dynamic and interactive.
